Skin
Artist Statement:
Skin is a fine art self-portrait body of work. The approach to this series is the Artists body. It is about the impact that society has on people’s appearances and how they see themselves and present themselves to the world. Due to this, body image issues are very prevalent in this world. Most people know what it feels like not to love the skin that they're in and struggle with it daily. This project is about accepting and loving ourselves as we are. In the majority of the images, my face cannot be seen. This is to allow the viewers to identify themselves in the images, not just me and my body. Each image is a representation of different parts of the body and appreciating every one of them. My work engages in self-presentation by using my own body as a vessel to positively influence the viewers to truly look at themselves and accept all that they are, despite what society deems acceptable for appearance. This work allows for an exploration of identity. This project; it has helped me to explore my own identity and my own skin. Before this project, I thought I had truly accepted myself and my body, but once I started it, I realized it was a process.
